Your private spa is a great stress reliever, on the other hand, you may feel more stressed when your spa needs to be cleaned before you can soak your worries away. It may be a dark ring near or at the water line or the water is not as clear as it should be, anything that would make you say to yourself, Y-U-C-K-Y.
Maintaining a tip top spa is easier than you might think, especially if you use spa chemicals:
- Regularly change the water. The regularity of using the spa is the main determinant for changing the water. It is recommended that the water be changed every 3 months.
- Remove the scum. The deposits or debris that has stuck onto the sides and bottom of the spa can be removed with good old scrubbing. The best results can be obtained with combined scrubbing and specially formulated spa or hot tub chemicals.
- Use spa sanitizers. These disinfectants include bromine and chlorine tablets or granules. These are close to those used as swimming pool chemicals and they also have the same result, which is disinfecting the water.
- Flocculants. Repeated use of the spa eventually results in cloudy water – the addition of flocculants returns water clarity and sparkle. The small particles of silica, carbonates, and dead algae are gathered by organic polymers that clump together and either float to the surface or sink to the bottom for easy removal.
- Cartridge cleaners. Remove grease, oils, dirt, organic matter, and precipitated salts from filter cartridges to return filters to maximum efficiency.
- Test the water. There are water test strips that you can use to test for the quality of water in your spa. It indicates the levels of pH, alkalinity, and chlorine or bromine. This is important to minimise the amount of chemicals you need to use to keep your spa in top condition.
- Spa no-foam, this is more of a preference than a necessity. As the water runs, foam might be produced, so much more than what you would like. Simply squirt a small amount of the no-foam chemical and you will have a spa with just enough foam.
Your spa will always be ready and clean only if you do your fair share of checking the water quality. This guarantees you that you can get into that spa any time of the day.
